This Kitchen Floor Went from Dull to Fresh-Looking After a Grout Cleaning in Tampa, FL
August 15, 2023
This homeowner had recently purchased an apartment in Tampa, Florida. As part of the home purchase agreement, the previous owner had agreed to pay for the floors to be professionally cleaned. The tiles did not look damaged, but they were quite grimy, especially the spaces between tiles. So he and his agent thought a thorough cleaning job would suffice to improve their appearance. His real estate agent had previously used Sir Grout for a house she had sold not too long ago, so she did not hesitate to advise the new owner to call the Tampa grout cleaning specialists to get a quote. She knew they would do an excellent job at a fair price. The homeowner decided to take the realtor's advice and called to set a date for a free, in-home evaluation.
The In-Home Evaluation and Quote
On the date of the evaluation, our tile and grout cleaning technicians visited the home to look at the floor, assess the situation, and offer an appropriate estimate for the work.
As the client had mentioned on the phone, the tiles looked healthy enough. However, the grout between them was dirty. Time had taken a toll on the floor, and grease, dust, and other dirt had accumulated over the years both on the tiles, which looked slightly darker and stained, and on the grout, which looked significantly darker in some areas than others.
We confirmed that a tile and grout cleaning would highly improve the appearance of this kitchen's floor, and recommended having the grout ColorSealed, which would even the color, make the floor look like new, and protect the grout from getting extremely dirty in the future.
The owner agreed with our recommendations, so we set a date to carry out the job at the customer's earliest convenience.
How a Tile and Grout Cleaning and Color Sealing Service Gave This Floor a Like-New Look
On the agreed-upon date, we got to the client's home and started by masking and protecting all the areas that were near the floor that we were going to work on.
Once all the surrounding areas were properly covered, we applied a tile and grout cleaner, let it soak for a few minutes, and then proceeded to use a gentle scrubber to thoroughly remove all the grime that had gotten attached to the floor's surface. To ensure that all the dirt and grease were removed, we used a steam cleaner on the most stubborn areas. Once the entire surface was cleaned, we used a wet vacuum to remove all the excess products and water and waited until the area was completely dry. We then checked whether the grout lines needed to be repaired. Since none of the lines need to be fixed, we proceeded to carefully apply ColorSeal to all the grout lines to get an even color across the entire floor and give it that fresh, like-new look.
Extra-Protection Added
Once the entire grout was ColorSealed, we poured Tile Armor over the entire surface and buffed it on to add an extra layer of protection to the tiles and grout.
A Little Something about the Products We Used and Our Processes
ColorSeal is Sir Grout's flagship process, and our proprietary products re-color the floor's grout while making it stain- and water-resistant.
Tile Armor, on the other hand, is a clear sealer for tile and grout. It protects tiles against spills and stains, while adding an extra layer of protection to the grout.
Both products are virtually odorless, non-toxic, and safe for the whole family, including pets.
The Result
As you can see in the "after" image, the result was a complete transformation. The cleaned and ColorSealed floor now looks bright and fresh, even the appliances and surrounding cabinets seem different.
Some Recommendations to Maintain the Floor's Appearance
After we were done, we offered our client some tips on what to do, and what not to do, to keep the floor 's appearance as bright and clean as possible.
-
List of Do's
- Vacuum the floor frequently to remove loose dirt and dust.
- Always use a pH-neutral, soapless cleaner and mop as usual.
- Use an undiluted cleaner where dirt is more concentrated or has accumulated.
- Always dry with a towel or terry cloth to remove dirty water or cleaner residue that settles into the grout lines. Otherwise, once the liquid residue evaporates, dirt will be left behind.
- It is better not to use soap-based cleaners on tiles, as these types of cleaners leave behind a film that attracts dirt, dull the surface, and encourage mildew growth.
- Acid- or ammonia-based cleaners can change the color of the grout, so they should be avoided as well. What's more, acid-based cleaners can deteriorate the sealer over time, reach the grout, and damage it.
- Finally, we advised against the use of steel wool or other abrasives on tile, as they can scratch and dull the surface.
